Pyrenean Gîte

Comments

Most of the entries in our visitors book list the places they have seen and want to recommend to others, but here is a selection of general comments to give a flavour of the house, the area, the atmosphere, and the variety of enjoyable ways of spending a holiday here!

We had lots of cosy evenings in front of the log fire – with a glass of wine or 3!
More than one day sunbathing on the terrace – going home with respectable tans!
All feeling very relaxed and ready to face the world again after our ‘little escape’ to the Pyrenees.
Hope you all enjoy yourselves as much as we have!
We went to St Bertrand twice and the Nocturnes on a Friday evening give you the chance of hearing the organ and looking at the extraordinary carvings and the lovely cloisters with their picture windows looking out onto the hills.
The house has been a good base and has all that is needed for a good holiday. The BBQ works well and the sun terrace is great for eating followed by star gazing. It’s easy to spot satellites, shooting stars, and great to watch car headlights meandering down the mountain passes.
Had a great trip on a raft -an hour of sheer panic on the water and something we will never forget.
Thoroughly enjoyed sitting on sun terrace in the sun. St Bertrand de Comminges very beautiful, also Basilica at Valcabrere. Local bar/restaurant very relaxed, good fun and food. Overall a super time, wonderful gite and view.
What a wonderful view to contemplate with a glass of wine.
Our main activity was rock climbing with our five children. We found excellent routes of all levels and brilliant for kids.
We have been on some lovely walks in the mountains, the lakes are superb and the autumn colours are beginning to show – really excellent. Weather has been superb. We have really enjoyed ourselves in this lovely spot.
We only spent a week here and feel like we haven’t even scratched the surface – possibilities are endless! The mist in the valley is amazing as it weaves and snakes its way above the Garonne. We shall return in the summer and discover the changes and new challenges in this beautiful valley.
We were happy to stay here for three weeks. We think it’s one of the most beautiful places on earth. You can sit on the terrace and you never get bored of what you see. Also when the weather is not so sunny you can sit inside with a drink and talk by the open fire. We think one of the most beautiful walks is at the end of the road in the Vallee du Lys; lovely waterfalls there.
We had spectacular sunsets, sunrises and moon rises. If the air is crystal clear at the going down of the sun you get a light show from here to the farthest mountain crest! We anticipate coming back to this delightful region and location because we couldn’t fit all the things to do into two weeks – partly as it was so hot we tended to lie about like Serengeti lions, enjoying l’ambience...
Can’t wait to return!
We were greeted with a grandstand view of the Tour de France, from the caravanne to the tail enders. Watching them descending from the Col d’Aspet and Col de Mont at breakneck speed, along the main road and off to Spain. All in temperatures of 34º!
We own up to not having done anything. No walking, no climbing, nothing requiring any exertion at all and we have loved every minute of it.
You can observe the birds of prey soaring on the thermals, watch the crickets and lizards scuttling about, spend time under the fruit trees – fig at the back, walnut at the front – and just let it all wash over you.
